Gannawarra Shire did not adequately address level crossing sighting issues at B. McCann Road acknowledged by the Shire in 2009.
The ATSB is satisfied that the safety action taken by the Gannawarra Shire has reduced the risk associated with this safety issue.
The Australian Transport Safety Bureau recommends that Gannawarra Shire reviews its processes and implements improvements in the follow-up of identified level crossing sighting deficiencies.
Gannawarra Shire Council has amended its policies and procedures with respect to level crossing safety management throughout the Shire. The Council has also introduced six monthly inspections of all level crossings in their juristiction. Meetings are being facilitated with all stakeholders to discuss crossing issues.
