M18 Dromader aircraft were being operated in the agricultural role at weights for which a 15° bank angle limitation had effect, whereas the nature of agricultural operations increased the risk of pilots exceeding that limitation.
Increasing the bank angle limit to 45 degrees would make the aircraft practical to use in the agricultural role.
The owner and developer of Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) SVA521 reported that pending Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) approval, they were in the process of amending it to increase the maximum permitted bank angle to 45°.
The ATSB is satisfied that the proposed safety action will, when implemented, adequately address the safety issue.
