The concern related to the uneven surface on the apron area at the domestic terminal at [location] airport.
The reporter expressed a safety concern relating to the uneven surface of the apron area at the domestic terminal at [location] airport.
The reporter advised that at the area, approximately 100 metres from the intersection of taxiway Hotel, Bravo and prior to taxiway Delta, the surface is so uneven that taxiing turboprop aircraft over the area results in severe oscillations (to the maximum movement of the nose landing gear oleo). This creates a very unsafe environment for the cabin crew, who are standing giving their passenger pre-flight briefings.
The area of apron mentioned on this REPCON is programmed in our airside works programme for renewal in the next 12 months. We have a robust renewal programme which rotates through our infrastructure as it approaches the end of its life cycle. At present this area is planned for the end of this calendar year for overlay and renewal.
CASA has reviewed the REPCON and intends to follow this through with the airport operator to confirm that the identified hazard has been considered by their Safety Management System, and to confirm that, in addition to the pavement renewal planned within the next 12 months, appropriate short term risk mitigation measures have been considered.
