Safety Recommendation
The Australian Transport Safety Bureau recommends that Aviation Australia Pty Ltd implement a periodic inspection routine, based on BFG SL 1714, of all main landing gear wheels that have undergone a hub bushing repair.
The following response to safety recommendation R20050009 was
received from Aviation Australia Pty Ltd on 17 May 2006.
As discussed VH-TBS whilst system serviceable has been disabled
for any future flight and is 100% utilized for the provision of
technical training. It remains on the register to simply support
reality to Aviation Australia students whilst involved in work on
and around the aircraft. All rotables are no longer lifed therefore
deemed to be unserviceable.
As a result of the above, Aviation Australia has accepted the
recommendation as "Information Only" for our purposes.
Ongoing inspection could only be performed on Calendar time and
is therefore unlikely to produce reliable results.
To perform such tasks we would also require specialist tooling
which we do not have access to, nor do we have a current capability
to jack the aircraft.
The response received from Aviation Australia Pty Ltd to safety
recommendation R20050009 was accepted in view of the current and
future ground-based training use of the aircraft VH-TBS.
VH-TBS is the only B727 aircraft registered to Aviation
Australia Pty Ltd.
