Safety Recommendation
As a result of this investigation, the Australian Transport
Safety Bureau recommends that the German Airworthiness Authority,
Luftfahrt-Bundesamt issue an airworthiness directive to mandate
compliance with Rolls-Royce Deutschland Ltd and Co KG Service
Bulletin SB-BR700-73-900316.
On 15 October 2003, the Luftfahrt-Bundesamt issued Airworthiness
Directive 2003-235, mandating compliance to Rolls-Royce Deutschland
Service Bulletins SB-BR700-73-900334 Revision 1 and SB-BR700-900316
Revision 2. SB-BR700-73-900334 Revision 1 included instructions to
readout the maintenance messages of the Electronic Engine
Controller (EEC) shown by the Multifunction Control Display Unit,
and action as required. SB-BR700-73-900316 Revision 2 required the
replacement of all EEC units with a serial number of 0351 or
earlier, which were not identified as having SB-BR700-900316
initial issue, Revision 1 or Revision 2 incorporated.
