'The Australian Transport Safety Bureau recommends that Saab
include information in both the aircraft flight manual and the
aircraft operating manual advising of the differing shedding
capabilities of the wing de-ice boots at different
temperatures.
In both AFM and AOM published by SAAB Aircraft AB there is a
recommendation, introduced in October 1999, to cycle boots at first
sign of ice on the airframe, ref appendix 2. The crew must always
monitor the wing for ice and if not all ice is shed then cycle
boots more often. There is no possibility to define from
temperature, altitude, speed and clouds an advice to the crew, the
capability of the boots to shed ice build up on the wing.
