The Directorate of Flying Safety-ADF and the Bureau of Air
Safety Investigation (ATSB) recommends that AusSAR develop a
standard format for the in-flight retasking of search and rescue
aircraft and ensure that all personnel involved in search and
rescue operations are familiar with that format.
AusSAR has introduced a standard "Amended SAR Briefing Form"
that can be faxed or e-mailed to an operator who is communicating
directly with an aircraft to be re-tasked in-flight. The form
ensures that the amended briefing is comprehensive and reduces the
prospects for transmission errors.
However, AusSAR has refrained from requiring aircraft that might be
tasked for SAR operations to carry blank copies of the form,
preferring to allow air operators to use their own means to
transmit and record tasking instructions.
It is considered that the intent of this recommendation has been
satisfied.
