The Bureau of Air Safety Investigation recommends that 1st
Aviation Regiment review operational standards and procedures to
ensure that maps and charts appropriate to the performance and type
of aircraft involved, and the nature of the operation being
conducted, are used for the planning and conduct of flying
operations.
Army has concluded compliance with all recommendations from the
BASI Crash Investigation.
Recommendation R19980220: This has been implemented. The fact that
the crew elected to use maps with insufficient detail for the type
of navigation activity has been the basis for a review in the high
DA procedures used by the operating unit.
