The Bureau of Air Safety Investigation recommends that the Army
include, as an on-going component of 1st Aviation Regiment Training
Objectives, sufficient resources to maintain a core of expertise in
tropical mountainous operations for each type of aircraft which may
be required to operate in such conditions.
Army has concluded compliance with all recommendations from the
BASI Crash Investigation.
Recommendation R19980219: This is acknowledged. The loss of high DA
operations corporate knowledge within the fixed wing capability has
led to a restriction in his type of operation. DHC-6 crews no
longer operate in this environment. Should Army require the
capability to operate in high DA, a comprehensive development
program will be implemented.
