The ATSB is investigating an occurrence involving a Cirrus SR22, registration VH-DCB, 28 km east of Nyngan Airport, New South Wales, on 24 January 2025. The aircraft was operating on a private flight from Gold Coast, Queensland, to Mildura, Victoria.
During cruise, the pilot received a low oil pressure warning and the engine subsequently failed. Fire was observed emanating from the engine cowling and smoke was observed in the cockpit. The pilot conducted a forced landing on a highway.
The evidence collection phase of the investigation will involve the ATSB interviewing involved parties and reviewing recorded data, and the collection of other relevant information.
A final report will be released at the conclusion of the investigation. Should a critical safety issue be identified during the course of the investigation, the ATSB will immediately notify relevant parties, so that appropriate safety action can be taken.
