The Transportation Safety Board (Junta de Seguridad en el Transporte - JST) of Argentina has requested technical assistance from the ATSB to support its investigation into the collision between two trains on the railway bridge over Figueroa Alcorta Avenue, Palermo, Buenos Aires, on 10 May 2024.
Passenger train 3353 and work train T3021, both operated by State Railway Operating Company (SOFSE), collided on a railway bridge over Figueroa Alcorta Avenue at about 1030 local time. Train 3353 was made up of locomotive B951 and 7 passenger cars. The T3021 work train consisted of locomotive 1000 and one car without passengers.
The collision resulted in damage to the track infrastructure and rolling stock. It was reported that there were about 90 injuries among passengers and railway personnel.
To facilitate the ATSB's support to the JST and to provide the appropriate protections for the information, the ATSB commenced an investigation under the Australian Transport Safety Investigation Act 2003.
