The ATSB is investigating an aircraft preparation event involving a Saab 340B, registration VH-OLL, at Melbourne Airport, Victoria, on 19 November 2024.

During the engine pre-start with the engine still in the motoring position and the aircraft yet to commence taxiing, the flight crew received information which alerted them that the propeller bridle strap was still attached. The flight crew shut down the engine and a subsequent engineering inspection did not identify any resulting damage.

The evidence collection phase of the investigation will involve interviewing the flight crew and ground handling personnel, reviewing recorded information, and collection of other relevant evidence.

A final report will be released at the conclusion of the investigation. Should a critical safety issue be identified during the course of the investigation, the ATSB will immediately notify the relevant parties, so that appropriate safety action can be taken.
