The ATSB is investigating an icing incident involving Beech Aircraft B200, VH-ZMW, about 130 km west of Toowoomba, Queensland on 9 October 2024.

During cruise, the pilot detected severe icing and the aircraft encountered turbulence. The pilot diverted the aircraft to Roma. 

The ATSB has commenced the examination and analysis of the initial evidence collected which includes the flight crew interview, flight planning information, recorded flight data, relevant weather observations and forecasts, and the aircraft system resources which were available to the pilot. 

A final report will be released at the conclusion of the investigation. Should a critical safety issue be identified during the course of the investigation, the ATSB will immediately notify relevant parties, so that appropriate safety action can be taken.
