The ATSB is investigating an engine failure and collision with terrain involving Kawasaki Heavy Industries 47G3B-KH4, VH-BEU, 24 km north of Katherine Tindal Airport, Northern Territory, on 11 September 2024.

During a scenic flight, the engine failed, and the pilot conducted a forced landing. During the forced landing, the helicopter collided with terrain resulting in substantial damage. The pilot and 2 passengers were uninjured.

The ATSB has completed the evidence collection and analysis phases of the investigation and is drafting the final report.

The final report will be released at the conclusion of the investigation. Should a critical safety issue be identified during the course of the investigation, the ATSB will immediately notify relevant parties, so that appropriate safety action can be taken.
