The ATSB is investigating a missed approach / go-around involving a Cessna 206, registered VH-TDQ, at a private airfield 40 km south-east of Moora, Western Australia.
The pilot landed long, bounced and elected to conduct a go-around. As full power was applied, the pilot inadvertently selected the incorrect flap setting and subsequently identified that the aircraft was not climbing. The aircraft subsequently veered off the runway, coming to rest in a paddock, resulting in minor damage.
Passengers seated in the rear of the aircraft were forced to egress through the front cabin door as the rear cargo emergency exit was unable to be used as the flaps were extended.
To date, the ATSB investigation has included:
- interviews of the flight crew and Chief Pilot
- collection of documentation from the operator
The continuing investigation will include further examination and analysis of:
- related occurrences
- operator reports
- company documentation
- manufacturer documentation
A final report will be released at the conclusion of the investigation. Should a critical safety issue be identified during the course of the investigation, the ATSB will immediately notify relevant parties, so that appropriate safety action can be taken.
