The ATSB is investigating a runway incursion involving a Lancair, registered VH-VKP, and a Bombardier DHC-8-315, registered VH-TQZ, at Mildura Aerodrome, Victoria, on 29 September 2023.
During their take-off from runway 09, the crew of VH-TQZ received a broadcast from VH-VKP, stating that they were lining up for take-off on the crossing runway 36. The crew of VH-TQZ then broadcast that their take-off was in progress, and the pilot of VH-VKP held their position to maintain separation.
The ATSB has commenced the examination and analysis of the initial evidence collected.
To date, the ATSB investigation has included:
- interviewing the flight crew of each aircraft and the airport operator
- analysis of air traffic surveillance data
The continuing investigation will include:
- further analysis of air traffic surveillance data
- examination of potential radio interference at Mildura airport
- review of related occurrences.
A final report will be released at the conclusion of the investigation. Should a critical safety issue be identified during the course of the investigation, the ATSB will immediately notify relevant parties, so that appropriate safety action can be taken.
