The ATSB is investigating a collision with terrain involving Bell Helicopter 206L-1, registered VH‑BHF, about 20 km north-west of Jindabyne, New South Wales, on 11 March 2022.
During weed survey operations, the helicopter collided with terrain. The pilot and 2 of the passengers sustained serious injuries, and the 2 other passengers sustained minor injuries.
The initial evidence collection phase of the investigation included examination of the wreckage by ATSB investigators, and the collection of other relevant evidence, including interviews with key involved parties, recorded data, weather information, witness reports and pilot and maintenance records.
The examination and analysis phase reviewed risk controls for vegetation surveys and corresponding low-level flight operations.
The final report has been drafted and is undergoing internal review to ensure the report adequately and accurately reflects the evidence collected, analysis, and agreed findings.
The final report will be released at the conclusion of the investigation. However, should a critical safety issue be identified during the course of the investigation, the ATSB will immediately notify relevant parties so appropriate safety action can be taken.
