Accident

The aircraft was cruising 1000 feet above ground level, to remain clear of cloud, when the windscreen was suddenly covered with oil. The pilot transmitted a MAYDAY call and attempted to make a forced landing on the Great Eastern Highway. During an attempt to expedite the landing, because of approaching traffic, the pilot forgot to lower the landing gear and the aircraft touched down with the landing gear retracted before skidding off the road and into the bush. The oil had been released through an unsecured oil filler cap.
