The ATSB is investigating an engine failure and collision with terrain involving Kawasaki Heavy Industries 47G3B-KH4, VH-BEU, 24 km north of Katherine Tindal Airport, Northern Territory, on 11 September 2024.

During a scenic flight, the engine failed and the pilot conducted a forced landing. During the forced landing, the helicopter collided with terrain resulting in substantial damage. The pilot and 2 passengers were uninjured.

The evidence collection phase of the investigation will involve interviewing witnesses and involved parties, examination of maintenance and engineering records, retrieving and reviewing recorded data, and the collection of other relevant information.

A final report will be released at the conclusion of the investigation. Should a critical safety issue be identified during the course of the investigation, the ATSB will immediately notify relevant parties, so that appropriate safety action can be taken.
