The ATSB is continuing a transport safety investigation into the derailment of PN train 82P7 and subsequent collision between Aurizon train 9F02 and containers from the derailed train, at Marmor, Queensland, on 29 January 2023.

At about 1902 local time, while travelling on the main line, a Pacific National freight train experienced an axle fracture and derailment. Subsequently, Aurizon train 9F02, travelling in the opposite direction on the adjacent line, collided with containers from the derailed train. Nil injuries were reported. 

The ATSB has completed the evidence collection and analysis phases of the investigation and is drafting the final report. 

The final report will be released at the conclusion of the investigation. Should a critical safety issue be identified during the course of the investigation, the ATSB will immediately notify relevant parties, so that appropriate safety action can be taken.
