Flight crew licence check

Flight crew licence holders may be requested by prospective employers to provide a record of any involvement in aviation occurrences reported to the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB).

As a service to licence holders, the ATSB will undertake a flight crew licence check, subject to receipt of a properly completed Flight Crew Licence Check Request form. A link to the form is provided below.

An application will normally be actioning within five working days of the date of receipt by the ATSB.

The request form must be signed by the flight crew licence holder and be accompanied by a certified true copy of the applicant's flight crew licence. The copy must be certified by a person prescribed under the Statutory Declarations Regulations 1993 and should be annotated:

I certify this to be a true copy of the original sighted by me.

The certificate must include the name and signature of the person certifying the copy, together with the prescribed capacity, under the Statutory Declarations Regulations, in which they are doing so.

Requests for flight crew licence checks will not be accepted from parties other than the identified flight crew licence holder. Similarly, the result of the check will only be provided directly to the applicant. However, the flight crew licence holder may subsequently use the information as he or she sees fit. The ATSB will not send the requested information to third parties.

When a request is received, and in accordance with the applicant's rights under the Privacy Act 1988, the ATSB will conduct a search of its aviation occurrence database. The database contains a record of air safety occurrences that have been reported to the ATSB or its predecessors since 1969. The accuracy of the database relies on the reporting by responsible persons of reportable occurrences.

Applicants should note that the information held in the aviation occurrence database is not stored for the purpose of maintaining a record of an individual's involvement in air safety occurrences. Consequently, the ATSB does not warrant that an individual's involvement in an air safety occurrence may be definitively discerned  from the information recorded.
